Discovering PICs book + CD-ROM + Wavy Wand kit

PICs are the most exciting recent development in electronics. Why build a complex special purpose digital circuit when you can replace it with a PIC programmed to do the same thing?

Discovering PICs introduces you to assembly language programming using the PIC16F627/PIC16F627A and MPLAB©, the Microchip Inc. integrated develpoment environment. The PIC16F627 and PIC16F627A are versatile and inexpensive PIC devices, with lots of powerful features. Once you have a working knowledge of one PIC, it is easier to understand the features and capabilities of other devices.

The book tells you something about what is going on inside a PIC. In the first few Chapters, you can find out about bits and bytes and about binary arithmetic. The circuits needed to build bistables, registers and counters are described and you will understand the importance of tristates, decoders and memory as building blocks for microcontroller systems. The architecture of PIC devices is outlined and the PIC instruction set is explained in detail.

Later Chapters include guided projects which show you how to develop a new PIC system. The matrix die and wavy wand projects are straightforward, but you can also follow the step by step development of more sophisticated games timer and pulse rate monitor circuits.

The text of the book, all the necessary PIC program files, PIC data sheets and application notes are included on the CD-ROM.

Discovering CAD with Techsoft 2D Design ©

Discovering CAD book + CD-ROM
buy using PayPal™ £35.00 + £4.50 p&p = £ 39.50

Techsoft 2D Design © is the user-friendly CAD program designed for education. 2D Design is used in most UK primary and secondary schools. Details are available from Techsoft, who also sell Discovering CAD.

The book guides you from first principles to a comprehensive understanding of computer aided drawing techniques. Students will enjoy and learn from the entertaining and instructive activities included with each Chapter. The methods explained in the first part of the book are developed through a range of innovative Projects designed to stimulate the imagination.

Escher-style fish tessellation drawn using 2D Design

Design a pop-up card, find out about mathematical models and packaging, make a piranha fish mobile, experiment with Art Deco and repeat patterns and tessellations, find out how to use computer aided manufacture to make a clock, design a Celtic step, key, knot, or spiral pattern, discover tangrams, use symbols to draw chemistry apparatus or the circuit diagam of an electronic system. All these possibilites and more are explained.

The companion CD-ROM includes the book in pdf format, with links to all the 2D Design drawings.

Discovering Electronics with Crocodile Clips ©

Discovering Electronics with Crocodile Clips ©
buy using PayPal™ £12.00 + £2.50 p&p = £ 14.50

Discovering Electronics with Crocodile Clips © will help you to exploit the interactive learning potential of this superb circuit simulation program, used in schools in the UK and worldwide.

It is easy to learn how to use the program to build circuits. Students starting to learn about electronics need help in deciding which circuits to build and test. With this book, help is at hand.

In the first few chapters, electronics concepts are introduced through the medium of Crocodile Clips ©. The sequence of ideas is carefully controlled with the intention of building confidence in understanding and developing circuits. Taking simulation as a useful starting point, the book explains how circuit subsystems can be rapidly built up and tested for proper function. This leads to productive work with real components and allows students to explore alternative solutions to design problems.

DOCTRONICS Digital Clock Electronics Construction Kit

Full constructional details, including circuit diagrams and a printed circuit board pattern are given for a digital electronic clock. The circuit for the First Clock is modified and developed to produce additional designs which include a Big Digit Clock, Binary Clock, Linear Clock, Andrew's Clock (with a semi-analogue display) and a Circles Clock. All of these designs are unusual and distinctive.

Throughout the book, you will find lots of straightforward practical details and hints which will help to inspire you to develop your own solution to a design problem which has led to just a few commercially exploited solutions.
